Halloween Summer
So my "summer purse" (=bag I made out of a recycled pair of my favorite cargos) is adorned with the above... Quick story:
Last week I get on an elevator with some dude who takes note and makes the semi-friendly, semi-intrusive observational jack ass-y comment "Getting ready for Halloween, huh?" with that knowing look-- you know the one people give you when they're trying to be friendly, but half making fun of you at the same time because they don't get it and they just can't help themselves? That one. And in that guy way too which makes it 1000 times worse... (girls, you know what I'm sayin', right?) Just total blech. My retort? The best Jack Nicholson "Here's Johnny" sort of look like I'm going to eat him and his children raw, and simply said "always". He genuinely looked a little disturbed and got off as soon as he could.
I should have followed him...
Anyway. That's me. Representin'....

It's Officially Fall!
Right here, this second: the Autumnal Equinox "for 2012 begins in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22, 10:49 A.M. EDT." For more on the first day of fall, you can visit to the Old Farmers Almanac website.
Fun Fact: One year ago today exactly, I was in Maine taking the above photo.

Labor Day Weekend with The Vegan Zombie
Finally! With the arrival of September it's official: the end of summer is nighe. I can think of nothing better to celebrate than the erradication of a season of humidity, mosquitos, and short shorts and hello to the scent of fresh school supplies, the oncoming hues of autumn and the eventual payoff that is Halloween. If ever there was a reason to fire up the grill... and the Vegan Zombie has planned your meal!
Maybe throw a few spicey black bean burgers and some veggie dogs alongside the kabobs. Have a side of John's Baked Beans and potato salad too.
What are you up to this weekend?

Ice Cream and R.L. Stine
| R.L. Stine: Making scrunchies scary. |
When I was a kid I devoured R.L. Stine's Fear Street novels by the dozens. Super Chillers and sagas were my favorites. There's gotta be a couple boxes worth (at least) of paperbacks in my parents basement smoldering under five pounds of dust and cobwebs. The Brother was the same way with the Goosebumps series. His collection is still squished in with the entirety of The Boxcar Children series on the bottom of his bookshelf.
It's funny the way something can play such a huge role in your life and then years later, after they get forgot with all that crazy life stuff that tends to happen, something flips a switch and it all comes rushing back. Last month I probably wouldn't have remembered The Real Ghostbusters or Eerie Indiana any more than I had Fear Street. Mostly, I remember the crazy covers, because YES, I did judge the books by the covers, who wouldn't? They were flat out awesome.
The way the universe works, huh?
Today, I heard an ice cream truck troll passed the house. There's really nothing creepier than ice cream truck music. Well, except for maybe bunnies.
Are there bunnies? :/
