Twisted Treasuries Presents Storefront Saturday: The Gothic Horrors of Dellamorteco
Dellamorteco has made a few appearances on Twisted Treasuries a few times before. The "Werewolf Fetal Skull" (click the Dellamorteco tag below for a refresher!) and the "Anatomical Heart Vase" a little more recently in the Homemakers Horrors treasury. I love reading the descriptions, you learn a bit of folklore, mythology and history from around the world and as a skull freak, Michael Locascio's work is one of my top ogling stops on etsy. Best thing, his statues, magnets and even the vases are affordable so I know one day-- one day something of his will make it's way to the mantle of my humble little crypt. The problem is, what to choose?!

Twisted Treasuries: Homemaker Horrors
Few things freak me out as much as the idea of domesticity. The white picket fence, the 2.4 kids the His and Hers cars and towels and sinks... no thanks. And being a homemaker? Holy God, no thanks. Donna Reed I ain't-- I barely have the constitution for grocery shopping most days! I know how hard my mom worked (and still does) to keep the family plot from crumbling to its foundations. But maybe with the right tools to keep me (in)sane in the midst of the day-to-day... hence this weeks Homemaking Horrors.
This print, "Monster Mart" by Missy Munday of boopsiedaisy, is me all over. Shopping with a cheeky sneer for my weekly brains and booberries run... Her work is always amazing!

This Krueger mold is meant for soap, but you could probably swing some sort of jell-o mold for those neighborhood get togethers. Maybe you'll get lucky and they won't ask you back. Hell, make the soap and build a welcome basket for newcomers so they know to keep away. There are plenty of pre-made soaps to choose from over at Sick Soaps. The "zombie snack" or zombie soap for example would be a lovely choice...
Of course you can use this "dead inside" decal on anything, but I have been fighting a silent war for years with my mailman... I think this is one of those definite NEED situations. I put the sticker on and lull him into a false sense of security with nothing in the box, but the next time he overstuffs the mailbox or throws a package at my front door (true story... you wanna talk about going postal? he's the real deal) I stuff...well, something in it. A mini zombie would be ideal, but I really haven't gotten that far. But hey, at least he'd have fair warning.
Of course it's important to keep your kitchen pantry organized... especially in emergency situations.
I don't know how many lunches my mom has made in her lifetime. I know I'd go berserk filling up a brown bag day in and day out, but with some brown bags like these, maybe it'd be a little more palatable. I also like the Edgar Allan Poe version.

Twisted Treasuries Presents Storefront Saturday: The Art of Jim Beanus
Coming across a new favorite shop on etsy isn't too hard. Sometimes it's much too easy. Of course you like them, they have great stuff. Fresh creativity. Things you wish you had thought of, but not all of them are going to completely blow you away. Some shops seer themselves into your memory, like a favorite movie... with Jim Beanus you get both!! (how was that for a segway? haha)
From Jaws to The Dude in The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters and Encino Man to Die Hard, The Boondock Saints and Aliens, there's a little bit of everything (even Pride and Prejudice!), your favorite scenes frozen in ink and marker. Simply stunning and at the same time a little hilarious. It's hard to look through his portfolio without and smile and the occasional gleeful, kid-in-a-candy-store squeal! The bio in his etsy says after a hiatus from drawing he started and after receiving a request and then a signed copy of one of his prints from one of the stars of Big Trouble in Little China he decided not to stop to get as many famous people sigs as he could. The man knows how to prioritize! ;)
Of course I love all movies, so his shop is doubly awesome, but there's no mistaking, we're here for horror on this blog, and there's no shortage in his collection. These are some of my favorites:

Starbright Silver for the Pop Culture Geek
Came across a new jewelry shop to favorite the heck out of on etsy this morning: Starbright Silver: silver geek jewelry by Megan McFall. I'm not sure how I hadn't stumbled on it sooner!
Her shop has quite the collection of fabulous pop culture pieces to swoon over, not just because they're awesome, but because the jewelry is real silver so you can wear the heck out of them without turning your neck green. A luxury you don't always get with some geek shiek fandom accessories out there. It's cool to honor thy favorite monster, but you don't (always) want to look like it. Know what I mean?
My second favorite to the Halloween pumpkin? The "Face Hugger" pendant!
Then there's the "Evil Willow" Buffy homage necklace. One of quite a few choice Buffy pendants.

Twisted Treasuries #7: Damn(ed) Fine Coffee... Mugs
This week's Twisted Treasury was supposed to be about pumpkins and panic that next week is the last of September, but then came an unexpected personal... tragedy? (loss? mishap?).... whatever it was, it was a definite kick in the face as I discovered that all of my Halloween mugs* had gone AWOL from the cupboards sometime between last Halloween and now. I'm not a big coffee or tea drinker, especially not in the summertime and I wasn't here for about six months last winter (nope, the mugs didn't come with me) so the fact that I didn't notice till now isn't a stretch, but they've still gone somewhere. Somewhere nobody bothered to tell me about.

It's a family mystery (mayhaps, dare i say, conspiracy?) that no one in my house seems able (willing?) to solve, even though one of them had to have been the guilty party. Issue #2424789724 of living with aging parents: someone does something (bad/good/constructive) they can't remember if they did it or why. Meanwhile, all The Brother's mugs and Mom's mugs were present and accounted for. Did I mention The Brother hasn't lived in our house for almost three years? Three years and not only does he have have a designated mug cabinet, but seemingly mug security as well. And mom says she doesn't play favorites... Uh huh. Tell me another.
At any rate, Mom feels pretty terrible about it -- even though she may not remember it, deep down, she knows she's responsible-- she spent most of Sunday rifling through boxes (some that have probably been packed since 1987) searching in vain. Eventually she'll remember what she did with them I guess (I hope), in the meantime I'm looking for new mugs**
Luckily, that's the sort of thing Twisted Treasuries (and a good guilt trip) was created for!
Second Chance Ceramics has a LOT of great cups, mugs and well... other ceramics. I would say it's hard to choose, but that was before I saw this one! I'm an Oz fan from way back and I'll always love the original illustrations the best. This is so classic! Maybe a little too cutesy clean, but hey, can't be blood and gore all the time. Mom always said even evil takes a break...

There are a couple of Frankenstein Monster/Bride sets floating around on etsy, but these are my definite favorites. My only gripe is the his and hers, "mr." and "mrs." deal these sets seem to have. How about Mine and MINE sets?! Of course, I'm sure it's possible to get without. All I have to do is convo them... but, you know, just saying...

Circa Ceramics is another one chocked full of hard decisions. They're a lot like zombies and brains... or me and notebooks: you can't stop with just one!
This would nicely replace my favorite cauldron mugs from Target a few seasons ago...

Handspun Pumpkin
Confession: I am a yarn hoarder. Not just any sort of yarn hoarder mind you, but an art yarn hoarder. 'Round about this time of year it really starts to take hold. Along with the pages and pages of handmade Halloween magic my etsy faves explode with I start epic, sometimes day-long searches for one-of-a-kind, All Hallow's hued art yarn skeins and, even better, fiber batts to spin my own.
Last year, the year that I have now deemed "The Lost Halloween" (seriously, just now), instead of building and painting my way to October 31st, I watched horror movies and spun yarn. The shower curtain rod was full of skein upon skein drying from setting the twist pretty much from the end of September clear through to December. Unfortunately, I really don't have the same passion for knitting-- it's not like I don't have plans for it all, it's just that those plans aren't exactly at the top of my priority list-- so my yarn basket runneth over!
Like I'm going to let that stop me from an etsy search?
Today, I found two amazing handspun skeins of "Autumn Pumpkin" by Gerry of Dreamfiber on etsy.
I love love LOVE those little pumpkin nubs. Too cute!

Twisted Treasuries #6: Portraits of a Lady
I've been scrambling to get nice "lady-like" clothes together for a new job I'm starting in the coming weeks. It's been about five years since I've been required to wear something other than jeans, cargos and t-shirts to work (ah! the glamorous life of a dog walker!) so my "lady-like" is a bit rusty, if I ever had it in the first place. A friend suggested looking to favorite actresses for some inspiration... so I got a little stuck on Elsa Lanchester as The Bride. Unfortunately, I don't think bandage-couture would be too welcome in the work place.
Oh well...
As an apt distraction from the perils of clothes hunting, this week Twisted Treasuries is dedicated to the most beautiful woman ever created: The Bride
These two prints by Sara Bowersock are my absolute favorites. I love love love the use of color. All of her work is like licking a monster flavored lolli with your eyes. Is that creepy? Maybe. The second print I could see blown up wall size over a bed like a Gregg Araki film set design...

Stencil art will always hold a special place in my heart and this upcycled art rendition of the Bride by Jenny Lou of Undead Trash is perfect. There's even a matching Creation portrait to go with it and a couple of t-shirt designs as well.
I also love the selection of vegan tees in the shop.

Barry Sachs multi-media portrait print of The Bride is just the tip of the iceberg when you're talking about amazing monster portraiture, but still completely stunning. There's also a complimenting Creature portrait, Dracula, Malificent and some really beautiful Day of the Dead pieces.
Not exactly "lady like", but this photographic print is pretty much all encompassing of how I feel shopping for clothes...
